Remember the Ribbon Chair
Tatiana Hines is a second year PharmD Candidate at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is from Sicklerville, New Jersey, a small town just minutes away from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tatiana is a first-generation college student who earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a concentration in Pre-Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) in Greensboro, North Carolina. During her time at UNCG, Tatiana chartered the university’s first pharmacy student organization which provided an educational forum for students to prepare for careers within the pharmaceutical sciences. Tatiana was also the President of the university’s Chemistry Club, a board member of Smell the Roses Non-Profit Organization, a teaching assistant for chemistry courses, and a student manager for the Men’s Division I Basketball team.
Upon entering pharmacy school, she was certain that she wanted to enter a career where she could continue to address societal inequities and serve others. After becoming familiar with the student organizations within her school, Tatiana immediately knew that SNPhA was where she belonged. SNPhA's motifs of service, professional development, and health advocacy immediately sparked her interest to become an active member of the organization. These values encompass those that she strives to possess as a future pharmacist. As a SNPhA member, Tatiana has had many positive experiences such as patient education events and health screenings where she was able to serve her community and participate in mitigating the health and social disparities seen nationwide. After attending her first Regions I & II Conference at the University of Pittsburgh, Tatiana felt the sense of SNPhAmily and empowerment amongst their community of diverse student pharmacists. Soon after, she developed an interest in becoming a national officer for the next school year.
Outside of her role in SNPhA, Tatiana is the Medication Assistance Program Co-Coordinator for the Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC) located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. SHAC is an interprofessional free-clinic provided by professional students who volunteer their time serving underserved patients within the area. Tatiana is also a Co-Coordinator for Cultural Opportunities of Pharmacy at ESOP (CORxE) where she serves as a mentor to African American pre-pharmacy students and curates recruitment events in efforts to showcase careers within pharmacy. In her spare time, Tatiana enjoys cooking new recipes, traveling, exercising, and spending quality time with her friends and family. In addition, Tatiana comes from a family who all share a common love for basketball. You may catch her on Youtube watching game highlights.
Tatiana is elated and honored for the opportunity to serve on the National Board. As your appointed National Remember the Ribbon Chair, she aims to erase the stigma of HIV/AIDS through awareness and education. In light of these unprecedented times with the current COVID-19 pandemic, Tatiana hopes to provide more virtual opportunities and challenges for SNPhA members that will bring the topic of HIV/AIDS to the forefront. While Our Journey Continues, Tatiana looks forward to encouraging and staying connected with student chapters so that we can continue to aid underserved communities.
