Fighting Diabetes Chair
Vi Nguyen is a fourth year Doctor of Pharmacy Candidate at Mercer University College of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia. Before pharmacy school, she attended Auburn University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and a Bachelor of Art in Spanish. During her years at Auburn University, she studied abroad at the Franklin Institute of University of Alcalá de Henares for 5 months.
Vi’s interest in SNPhA began in her undergraduate years when she was a pre-pharmacy member. It was an influential avenue in her decision to continue pursuing pharmacy school as well as serving the underserved. She later became Historian for her Auburn chapter and attended the 2015 Region I & II Conference in Atlanta, Georgia where she was amazed by the impact that student pharmacists made through SNPhA. SNPhA’s purpose to serve the underserved influenced all of her leadership roles at Auburn.
Vi knew exactly which organization she wanted to provide her services to once she started her studies at Mercer University. During her first year of pharmacy school, she quickly became involved by participating in volunteer events where she served the underserved by providing clinical skills and translating for those who spoke primarily Spanish. She was also involved in Prescription for Service where her team won Nationally with their project called Know Your Numbers Health Application. After her first year she continued to be involved with her chapter by serving as Diabetes Chair and volunteering.
Aside from her active SNPhA roles, Vi is an active intern at Walmart Pharmacy and plans bi-weekly health fairs for her Phi Delta Chi chapter members. It is important to her to influence others to serve the underserved, not only through SNPhA, but in all other organizations which she is involved. She also is a co-founder for an Atlanta local dance team called Movement As One and served as a co-director and choreographer. Movement As One is a dance team for young adults that allows dancers of all backgrounds and dance levels to express themselves, while gaining exposure to all styles of dance.
Vi is honored to serve as the Diabetes Chair this upcoming year. She plans to expand SNPhA’s connections to other health organizations such as American Diabetes Association and to provide more resources to chapters, not only to increase the quality of their events, but to emphasize the importance of preventative care and lifestyle modification in the management of diabetes. She wants to continue the amazing impact SNPhA has on the community as she challenges members to find Strength In Purpose as they serve their community.
